Oregon to build 1,600 new jobs in new state warehouse

AUSTIN — The Oregon Department of Labor said Tuesday it will build 1.6 million new jobs for Oregon’s warehouse workers, which the state has been grappling with as warehouse construction has hit a wall in recent years.

The department said the new jobs will include more than 1,000 construction and production jobs.

The Oregon Labor Department did not say how many jobs the new hires will create or how many Oregonians will be impacted.

The state has lost an estimated $200 million to $300 million since the beginning of the economic downturn in 2008, when it laid off 1.1 million workers.
